Hello!  My name is Mollie Smith and I am so excited that you are entrusting your first grader to my care this year.

First, I want to assure you that I will do everything within my power to keep your child safe and educate them to the best of my ability.

I graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler and this will be my ninth year teaching first grade and my tenth year in education.    I love first graders!!!  I tell my kids that everything you learn in first grade you will use the rest of your life.

My husband, Luke, and I have been married for 26 years and we have four children.  Our oldest, Jolie, and her  husband Clayton live in Jacksonville and they were married in April of this year.  Our son, Rhett, works as an aircraft mechanic in Minnesota and he is a private pilot.  Kate is a freshman at Tyler Jr. College and Maecy is a senior at Jacksonville High School.

This year we will face challenges together, but I want to assure you that we will have fun and learn together amidst the challenges.  I know, as a parent,  it is hard to send your child to school without meeting me face to face.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have.  I love working with your child!

Will your boat float?
We tested each boat by putting bears in it....some friends even gave their boats a test of wind resistance.....I love it when my students add a new dimension to learning!!!
Students participating in the STEM challenge
This Friday's STEM challenge.... make a ramp and a sled that will go down the ramp.  The bear must stay in the sled all the way down the ramp.  Students were given a folder, 20 linking cubes, a bear, scissors  and five pieces of tape.
