Hello, Welcome to Joe Wright! My name is Megan Carlile. I’m super excited to be your child’s 2nd grade teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This is my 8th year in education. I'm a Christian and a mom of three beautiful babies Haylie, Brooklyn, and Noah. I grew up in Jacksonville and graduated from Jacksonville High School in 2007. I attended Lon Morris College and Ashford University. My degrees include Associates in Science, Bachelors in Psychology, and a certification in Early Childhood. I'm all about creating a supportive and inclusive classroom where everyone feels welcome and motivated to do their best. This year I'm excited for the opportunity to help your child learn and grow while creating many memorable learning opportunities. I can't wait to get to know all of you and have an amazing year together!

What an exciting day! Today Joe Wright second graders became published author\'s! Together students collaborated to create their own informational text. Students researched a many different animals to generate a writing that included many informational text features that they have been learning about such as subtitles, images with labels to give readers more information, onomatopeia words, thesis statements to get readers attention, a glossary, and topped it off with a table of contents to organize all their information! What a great day to be a Joe Wright Learner! :)

Some students demonstrated a lot of creativity with their illustration by incorporating life cycles! So neat!

Shout out to all the students who continue to receive new ninja math belts!
Shout out to all the students who continue to level up to achieve new belts for ninja math! Special congrats to the students who received their BLACK Belt this nine weeks. The black belt represents the highest achievement and mastery for math fluency in addition or subtraction. #ProudTeacherMoment
Ecosystems
Students also incorporated plant life in the ocean which only is a source of nutrients for many marine animals but provides shelter needed for survival.

Ecosystem Dioramas were a wonderful way to motivate student interest and engage them in their learning. STEMLife
Ecosystems
With this project students delegated each other roles and tasks such as one painting the box, one was on the computer researching the food chains, and another was creating the details for ecosystem. From a teaching standpoint it was really neat to see the diverse perspectives of the group members to generate ideas and innovation.
Plant and animal ecosystems
Students loved learning how plants, animals, and other microorganisms interact with each other within their ecosystems such as how sunlight is needed for plants and plants are essential for animals to survive. Students learned about many different prey and predators. Students studied what all living things need in order to survive and incorporated these elements into their ecosystems.
Ecosystems
Students had a wonderful time researching and learning about different ecosystems and their food chains. Students also learned about many different animal adaptions that help them survive from different predators.
Crystals
Students also learned that when water evaporates just like in the water cycle crystals will solidify creating these hard geometric shapes through the process of crystallization. These geometric shapes have flat surfaces, are triangular, square, and even rectangular in shape.
Crystal
Students enjoyed examining the amazing geometric solids that had formed from their chemical experiment using hot water and borax. Students discussed with their teacher was to improve the formation of crystals and the different things that could have effected the development of their crystals such as hot water verses water that had cooled down during this experiment.

Crystals- Chemical Changes
Students have been busy reading about wind and water shaping the Earth. For this STEM experiment students took a closer look at what happens when tiny particles, that have been broken down from erosion become trapped inside water molecules. Ms. Carlile and her class were so surprised to see the conclusion of an amazing chemical transformation! SO COOL!
